Kathleen Nash

Family Therapist

I am that woman who seeks to learn something from everyone she meets. 

Kathleen Nash is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who received her Master of Family Therapy (M.F.T.) degree from Drexel University. She also has an M.S. in Education from Bloomsburg University. Kathleen works with children, teens, couples, college students, and their families. Kathleen is an autism spectrum disorders expert and medical family therapist (MedFT). She helps patients become actively involved in their medical care and create a sense of being cared for by their family and medical professionals.  As a contextual family therapist, Kathleen’s clinical approach centers on diminishing the symptoms of depression, anxiety and grief, while fostering relationships with mutual understanding and trust. Her trauma-informed approach helps clients who are survivors of distressing life events, increase their sense of physical, psychological, and emotional safety. Kathleen has experience as an adjunct professor in the Couple and Family Therapy program at Drexel University and in the psychology department at Montgomery County Community College. She has presented regional and national seminars on a variety of topics, including supporting families of children with autism spectrum disorders, cultural competency, and child & teen development.

Brianna Hampson is a Speech and Language Pathologist that is passionate about what she does. She is a proud Souderton Graduate who continued on to complete her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Bloomsburg University for Speech Pathology/Audiology. She has worked with many populations of children, youth and adults within the Speech and Language Pathology scope of practice; however, has focused her specific interest in advocating for children with exceptionalities, specifically those with multiple disabilities.  Brianna currently works full time for Souderton Area School District and per diem for Pottstown Hospital. At Souderton, Brianna strives to enable children to express their voice, challenging them to communicate their wants, needs and desires with the world, not just those surrounding them. At Pottstown Hospital, she works in acute care with those that have swallowing disorders, stroke, TBI and cancer. Brianna’s career path was inspired by working with the ESL population in high school and with a young patient named Peyton, whose legacy lives on in the form of a Non-Profit Foundation, The “Peyty” Foundation, to which Brianna serves on as a board member for their Public Relations and Outreach Committee.The journey that led to her current career path was long, challenging and rewarding. Brianna has learned to value every part of her journey that has led to her being an advocate first and a Speech and Language Pathologist second.

YOLANDA WISHER

I am that woman who  believes in the power of the individual.

Yolanda Wisher is the 2016-17 Poet Laureate of Philadelphia. Wisher has been a force within Philadelphia’s literary scene for the past two decades, upholding poetry as a public art. She holds a B.A. in English and Black Studies from Lafayette College and an M.A. in Creative Writing/Poetry from Temple University. At the age of 23, Wisher served as the inaugural Poet Laureate of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She is the author of the poetry volume Monk Eats an Afro (Hanging Loose Press, 2014) and co-edited the anthology Peace is a Haiku Song (Philadelphia Mural Arts, 2013) with mentor and first Philadelphia Poet Laureate Sonia Sanchez. Wisher taught high school English for ten years, founded and directed a neighborhood festival headlined by youth poets in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, and worked as Director of Art Education for the Philadelphia Mural Arts. She has led and curated many innovative and community-driven programs with local and national partners, including The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Rosenbach Museum and Library, Historic Germantown, LiveConnections, and the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture. In April 2017, in collaboration with Philadelphia Contemporary, she organized the Outbound Poetry Festival, the first pop-up poetry festival in Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. Wisher performs a unique blend of poetry and song with her band The Afroeaters, and her writings have been featured in a variety of media including GOOD Magazine, PennSound, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Philadelphia Citizen, Contemporary Black Canvas, Harriet the Blog, PoetryNow, Obsidian, Ploughshares, and CBC Radio. She is a Pew Fellow, Cave Canem Fellow, and Hedgebrook Writer-in-Residence. She lives in Germantown.

Danea L. Durham is a Trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police. She currently serves as the Community Service and Public Information Liaison. Originally from Philadelphia, Trooper Durham graduated from Olney High School and continued her education with a bachelor’s degree from Temple University.

Trooper Durham makes presentations upon request to a wide variety of community organizations to foster an understanding of State Police operations and programs. She serves as a Pennsylvania State Police liaison and representative with community groups and organizations affecting community tension; promotes understanding between such groups and the State Police. Trooper Durham also participates in arrangements for the Camp Cadet Program within Troop K and serves as a counselor during the camp.

NATALIE DERSTINE

PT, DPT Facility Director at PHOENIX Rehabilitation and Health Services

I am that woman who believes your dreams are a step outside of your comfort zone.  

Natalie Derstine serves as facility director and lead physical therapist for Phoenix Rehabilitation Harleysville outpatient physical therapy facility.  Natalie's clinical expertise focuses on outpatient orthopedics, including post-surgical, acute, chronic, workers' compensation, pain disorders and sports injury cases. Natalie also participates in Souderton High School's PAT team, hosting many students for the purpose of exploring and experiencing a career in Physical Therapy.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Delaware Valley College and completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Drexel University. She strives every day to achieve balance with her career and family.

Eunice Heath is the Global Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability Director for Consumer Solutions. In this role, Heath drives product safety, stewardship and sustainability leadership for Consumer Solutions. Additionally, Heath is responsible for defining and implementing the business portfolio environment, health, safety and sustainability strategy; leading the sustainable products marketing strategy to ensure that innovation investments meet customers' current and emerging sustainability needs. Heath also drives industry regulations advocacy through partnerships with external organizations, governments, customers and industry partners. 

Heath joined Dow in 1991 as part of the Commercial Development Program and has worked in a myriad of Marketing, Sales and Supply Chain roles, including positions as global business director for POLYOXTM Water Soluble Resins in 2002, Marketing & Sales director for Dow Wolff Cellulosics in 2007, general manager of Home & Personal Care in 2009 and senior director of Northeast Government Affairs and Corporate Citizenship, STEM Education in early 2012. Heath assumed a role in corporate sustainability in 2013 which included responsibilities for Dow 2025 circular economy implementation and liaison to external organizations such as The Sustainability Consortium, Green Chemistry Commerce Council and American Chemistry Council Value Chain and Retail Committees. She was named to her current role in November 2016.

 

Among Heath's many talents and accomplishments, she has a strong passion for the development and advancement of people and support of STEM which is represented by her leadership on Dow's Corporate Marketing Council, African American Network Leadership Council and mentorship of employees. Heath is the executive liaison for Dow to the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) program where Dow has increased the exposure of the principles of engineering to approximately 1,000 elementary students and parents in Philadelphia and Detroit. Heath serves on the boards of the Wharton Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership and Project Lead The Way, a national STEM organization. She is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt, a recipient of the 2007 Black Engineer of the Year Award, 2011 Women of Distinction winner by the Philadelphia Business Journal, 2013 Champion of Champions award by NSBE and a 2017 Honoree on the Forbes Forty Women to Watch Over 40 List.

 

Heath earned her MBA at the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Florida.

Jane E. Robertson is in her 22nd year in law enforcement with the Hatfield Township Police Department. Starting as a patrol officer in 1996, she worked her way up through the ranks and had served as squad OIC (officer-in-charge) and patrol sergeant prior to attaining the rank of lieutenant in 2013. The police field was a second career for Lt. Robertson. Having attended Purdue University for both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, she had initially sets her career sights on being a journalist. She entered this career field in her early 20s and spent nearly 6 years working at a daily newspaper. Covering assignments for a colleague on leave included temporarily covering the police beat and this was the impetus that changed career paths. Within two years Lt. Robertson had been hired by Hatfield Township Police Department and enrolled in the police academy. Lt. Robertson currently sits on the board of directors for Laurel House, Montgomery County's only comprehensive domestic violence agency, and is a charter board member of the non-profit Officer William J. Chapman Memorial Scholarship. She is an active supporter of animal welfare and rescue initiatives and, in her down time, enjoys gardening and cooking. Lt. Robertson also recently decided to strike one of the top items off her bucket list and is fulfilling a decades long dream of learning to play the bagpipes.

 

Lt. Robertson will discuss how her background led her to her present position,  barriers she faces as a female law enforcement officer, and how she addresses those issues. Lt. Robertson will have a discussion about how choices young women make today may influence their lives tomorrow.

Maggie Wurst

I am that woman who believes that tackling every task with passion leads to opportunity.

Maggie Wurst grew up in the Souderton Area School District, and throughout her time as a student, she was encouraged by various teachers to follow her passion for writing. After joining Souderton Area High School’s newspaper, The Arrowhead, she fell in love with the communications industry and decided to pursue that field of study during her collegiate career.

 

Wurst graduated cum laude this past May from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She studied strategic communication and sociology, and throughout her collegiate career, held eight internships with a variety of organizations (including Fox Chase Cancer Center, Temple University’s School of Podiatric Medicine, The Reporter, NephCure Kidney International, and more). She also served as Firm Director for Temple University’s nationally-acclaimed, student-run public relations firm during her senior year.

 

Upon graduation, Wurst accepted the position of Marketing Administrator with FluidEdge Consulting, a healthcare management consulting firm based in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

 

Wurst credits her beginnings in the Souderton Area School District as the key to her success. The Advanced Placement courses she took during her studies at Souderton Area High School prepared her greatly for her collegiate career.

I am that woman who leads with love, engaging people with energy, respect, deep listening, and authentic humor.

Christine's 25 year career includes multiple roles in direct sales and marketing in the software industry. She has worked in start-up environments in four companies building high performing teams in marketing, tele-sales, demand generation, and customer support. For the past 11 years, Christine has worked for SAP America's, a global industry market leader with North American headquarters in Newtown Square. Today, she is the Regional Early Talent Lead for SAP's Global Sales Academy, an award winning program to recruit and train SAP's Next Generation Salesforce. She has managed more than 200 "millennials" through the program over the past 4 years.  Christine is also a trained Life and Business Coach.  

She is happy to speak to her experience managing a career in the corporate world as a woman and mother as well as opportunities in business, marketing and technology.

Christine earned a marketing degree from Penn State, is married and a proud parent of two SAHS graduates.  She coached softball and basketball in Harleysville for many years and now spends her free time hiking, backpacking, and doing yoga.

Hair Stylist at True Beauty Marks

I am that woman who perseveres.

Mikayla Haines is a professional hair stylist, currently working for True Beauty Marks . After graduating from Souderton Area High School she entered Penn State University as a math major. However, due to a medical leave her plans were delayed.  During this time, Mikayla turned to her other passion and obtained a cosmetology license while focusing on her health. Within the first month, she was offered the chance to work with destination weddings. From her experiences and training, she learned to appreciate that her role went beyond making someone feel beautiful but she could also be someone to offer advice and provide support. She will discuss how her hobby led her to TV opportunities and more than she ever imagined. Mikayla is currently in school to obtain her teaching license for hair.

Laura Chiarolanza is part of the Global Analytics team at Chubb, one of the world’s leading global commercial property and casualty insurance organizations.  Within the global analytics team, she leads the North America Financial Lines analytics team where they build statistical models for insurance overages like Employment Practice, Directors & Officers and Cyber among others.  She is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and also hold a BS in Mathematical Decision Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Kelly Schwarz is a biopharmaceutical engineer at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). She received her B.S. in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Johns Hopkins University and just completed her PhD in chemical and biological engineering at Northwestern University earlier this year. Kelly previously worked for Janssen working as a senior scientist, supporting late stage biologic drug development. Currently at GSK, she works on a technical support team whose role is to identify and correct issues that arise during the manufacturing process and to help transfer new technology into the manufacturing environment. Kelly has published manuscripts on her work and presented at several national conferences. Additionally, she has taken an active role in science outreach with a variety of state and national organizations, and

has mentored several high school and college teams as they completed in biology or engineering-based science competitions. Outside of work, Kelly enjoys playing and watching a variety of sports and baking.

Grace Stoeckle has worked in technology since 2000, as a user experience designer, product designer, researcher, and content strategist. She has created websites, web apps, and mobile apps. She’s currently a user experience designer at AWeber, an email service provider based in Chalfont, PA. Her research projects and software product designs have resulted in digital products for many organizations, including the NCAA, ExactTarget, Lincoln Financial, Indiana State Museum, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and of course, AWeber. Grace earned her bachelor of arts (English Literature) from Penn State, then became a self-taught UX designer.

 

Grace would like to share her experience of leaping from a background in the arts into a male-dominated career in tech, her challenges of facing her own imposter syndrome, the incredible benefits of being passionate about your work, and the joy of riding a motorcycle.

Kristin is a former Division One basketball player and an avid athlete. She is an active member of the Souderton Community involved in several community, church, and civic organizations, including Cornerstone Church of Skippack, Montgomery Theater, Souderton Boys Basketball, and the Chosen 300 food bank. Her passion is to faithfully serve and love others. She is a retired banker and  athlete, and happily married to her husband Rob for over 30 years!! Their three sons graduated from Souderton Area High School.

Lynn Williams is an Executive Assistant/Crisis Intervention Support Counselor at Victim Services of Montgomery County. Victim Services Center (VSC) is the only comprehensive crime victim service in Montgomery County that helps victims of crime, such as sexual assault, rape, physical assault, survivors of homicide and child abuse heal from the trauma of victimization.  Lynn attended Villanova University where she studied International Business.  After college, Lynn went to work for SEI for 2 years. She then became a stay at home mom for a number of years.  During that time, she became president of the elementary parent association in Hatboro Horsham School District. She headed community outreach projects for the school and worked part-time as a classroom aide.


In 2010, she took a temporary position with Victim Services Center of Montgomery County as their executive assistant.  When the assignment ended, Lynn continued to work with the agency as the Community Outreach Special Event Planner. In Lynn’s current position as executive assistant, she works with intermediate crisis counseling, grant writing, and community outreach events.

 

Lynn has had a number of jobs; working with the clients of Victim Services Center is one of the most fulfilling.  The reward of helping others is very uplifting.

 

When not working, Lynn enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and cooking.

Jennifer Riley, Esq.

I am that woman who is a strong, zealous advocate.

Jennifer J. Riley, Esquire focuses her practice on Family Law, including Divorce, Child Custody, Child Support, Alimony, Protection from Abuse, Prenuptial Agreements, Postnuptial Agreements, Spousal Support, Adoption, and Grandparents' Rights. Ms. Riley earned her Master’s degree in History at Villanova University, and is a graduate of Temple University Beasley School of Law, where she focused her studies on Trial Advocacy. She was a member of the acclaimed National Trial Team, and a finalist at the National Ethics Trial Competition in Sacramento, California. She was awarded numerous honors, including several awards for Outstanding Oral Advocacy, and the Victor A. Jaczun Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy. Ms. Riley provides free consultations at community resource centers, including the Women's Resource Center, and volunteers for the American Bar Association's Military Pro Bono Project, which provides pro bono family law services to active military personnel. She is a frequent public speaker at schools and local community events, an active volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association of Delaware Valley, and serves as a coach for a competitive high school mock trial program, for which she was honored with the Friend of Education Award. In addition to Ms. Riley's contributions to the local community, she is a co-author of Custody Law and Practice in Pennsylvania, PBI Press, 2013. In 2012, 2013, and 2014 she was named one of Pennsylvania's "Rising Stars" by a poll of her peers as published in Philadelphia Magazine, and was honored as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Family Law Attorneys in Pennsylvania in 2013. Adrienne Neszmelyi-Romano

Director of Interpretation & Innovation at The James A. Michener Museum

I am that woman who is fueled by the creative process and watching how that process takes shape in others.

Adrienne Neszmelyi-Romano, Director of Interpretation and Innovation, has been associated with the Michener Art Museum since 1995. In her current role, she manages all the K-12 onsite and offsite programs for school and teachers. In addition,Adrienne leads and collaborates with different departments to create, organize and identify the use of creative and emerging technologies in/among exhibitions, collections, and education. These efforts have resulted in projects such as the Museum’s first mobile app and the Museum’s partnership with Google Arts and Culture, a worldwide platform and database of high resolution images from museums around the world.

 

Adrienne also leads and collaborates with marketing staff to strategize, implement the museum’s social media initiatives. She works with curatorial staff to identify and implement innovative and unique participatory experiences and exhibitions in the museums’ galleries for a variety of audiences. She recently curated the exhibition, Decorated, Displayed, Discovered: Celebrating the Region’s School Art Collections, which highlights the region’s rich history in school art collections beginning as early as the end of the 19th century.

 

Adrienne received her undergraduate degree in painting from Loyola College and her arts education certification from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. She received her Masters in Art Education from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She has worked as a grant panel evaluator for the New Jersey State Arts Council, served on the Philadelphia Arts Advisory Board for the Philadelphia School District’s Art Collection and has presented at national and regional conferences on Museum technology and education initiatives. Adrienne is a practicing and exhibiting artist in the medium of Jewelry and Metalsmithing.

I am that woman who loves to eat healthy and stay active.

Brittany McCollum, graduate of West Chester University, is a licensed Registered Dietician Nutritionist working at Abington Hospital. She has worked with Bariatric Surgery patients, Cancer patients, Diabetics and now works in Pediatrics. Her goal is to grow and expand my network as a Pediatric Dietician and grow her own company as well. She also graduated from Souderton Area High School and loves to come back to speak in the classroom. She will share her advice on career success and her passion for proper nutrition.

Amy Mack has been practicing Clinical Social Worker since 2001.  She studied Psychology at Gettsyburg College and received her Master of Social Work degree from Widener University.  Amy has worked with children, adolescents, and families in many different settings—at school, in the home and in the therapy office.  Amy joined the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Department of Childhood and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences team in 2013 where the majority of her clinical time is spent working with the Eating Disorder assessment and treatment team. Outside of work, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children.

Suzy Szafran has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2001.  She received her Master of Social Work degree from Widener University.  Suzy has worked with children, adolescents, and families in many different settings—residential, Intensive Outpatient Programs and in the therapy office.  Suzy joined the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Department of Childhood and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences team in 2012 where the majority of her clinical time is spent working with the Eating Disorder assessment and treatment team.  Outside of work, Suzy enjoys spending time with her three children and taking vacations.

 

Amy Mack along with Suzy Szafran will discuss their work with families and young adults with eating disorders and how it can be influenced by the media and other sources.   They will also share how their team collaboration addresses this issue.  Ms. Mack and Ms. Szafran will explore their careers and the preparation which led them to their work.

Maggie Longacre

Cancer Scientist, College Professor and Athlete

I am that woman who  believes what you learn along the way is always more important than the outcome.

Margaret (Maggie) Longacre, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Public Health in the College of Health Sciences at Arcadia University where she conducts research and

teaches courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, including Health Care Systems; Health Policy, Law and Bioethics; and, Research Methods. She has a doctoral degree in Health Policy from the University of the Sciences, an M.S. in Health Education from Arcadia University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Wake Forest University. Her doctoral dissertation and subsequent research interest has revolved around family caregiving in cancer, including understanding psychosocial and health system impacts. Prior to joining the faculty at Arcadia University, Maggie was the Director of Research at the Cancer Support Community (CSC) National Headquarters Research and Training Institute where she led national level research in caregiving and policy. Prior employment also included working at Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC) as a Senior Project Manager in the Cancer Prevention and Control program. Maggie is a graduate of Souderton Area High School (SAHS) and a member of the SAHS Athletics Wall of Fame for her successes in tennis and lacrosse. Maggie was an All-American in lacrosse and attended Wake Forest University on a full tennis scholarship, competing in NCAA Division I tennis. She competed in the team, individual and doubles NCAA tournaments over her four-year career. She is grateful for the many wonderful coaches she has had and she will discuss her perspective on how lessons from the court can translate to academic and career success.

I am that woman who is a life-long learner that speaks truth to power.

Laura oversees the domestic programs, including educational and intercultural initiatives at Pearl S. Buck International. Her experience includes working with marginalized communities and creating effective programs for delivery of services. Laura has worked in the health care and nonprofit sectors.

 

Laura has more than 30 years of organizational leadership and program development experience. In addition to her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from New York University, Laura earned her Foundations Certification from the Intercultural Communications Institute. She is licensed as a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory assessment and certified as a trainer by the Emotional Intelligence and Diversity Institute. Laura also is a certified trainer and facilitator of Race and Reconciliation conversations and a Cultural Detective.

Julie earned her BA from King's College and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Wilkes University. Julie retired after 25 years of teaching math at Indian Valley Middle School. Most of her time teaching was with her husband, Doug, who is now the Family Care Pastor at their church. Retiring allowed her to assist her husband full time with counseling at the church as well as other active duties. In 2001, Julie and her husband presented the Pearl S. Buck Women of the Year Award  to Madam Lee He Ho, wife of Korean President Kim Dae-jung. In 2006, she was also a part of presenting the same award to First Lady Laura Bush.

Julie is also a  wife and mother of two married sons and five wonderful grandsons, three of whom are currently SASD students.   

 

Julie Henning is an Amerasian born in South Korea at the end of the Korean Conflict.  At age 13, her Korean mother died, and Julie was brought to America by Nobel Prize winning author Pearl S. Buck who raised her as her daughter. Julie will take you on a journey from her roots outside of Seoul, Korea to her life with the famous author, and finally into a new, lasting family.  Her “rags-to-riches” story will challenge your heart as she shares the Divine hand print on her life.

Dr Mary Pagan is a local gynecologist and partner at Stoneridge Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is board certified in OB/GYN and a Fellow of the American College of OB/GYN. Graduating Magna Cum Laud from Duke University with a Bachelors of Science in Zoology, she then attended medical school in Baltimore at the University of Maryland. She completed her internship and residency in OB/GYN at the University of Maryland in 1993 and has practiced general obstetrics and gynecology since that time in the Philadelphia area. Committed to the health care of women in the community,she and her husband also make their home here with their three sons.

 

Dr. Pagan will be walking through her career path, balancing her career with her family, as well as providing audience with information about young women’s health.

I am that woman who rises above her insecurities to accomplish great things.

Louise Feder

Assistant Curator at the James A. Michener Art Museum

I am that woman who color codes her calendar, is always running five minutes late, carries a huge purse that’s bursting at its seams, uses post-it notes for everything, hates voicemail, loves thank you notes, and prefers talking about others instead of herself.

Louise Feder is the Assistant Curator at the James A. Michener Art Museum. She earned her BA in Art & Art History at Dickinson College and her MA in Art History at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Her graduate thesis, “Lloyd Ney’s New London Facets: Abstraction and Rebellion in the Section of Fine Arts” was the starting point for the first solo exhibition on the artist since his death, Lloyd Ney: Local Color, which Feder curated at the Michener in 2016. Other exhibitions she has curated at the Museum include Pattern Pieces (2015), Garber in Spring (2016), Philadelphia in Style (2016 with Kirsten M. Jensen and Clare Sauro), Steve McCurry: Unguarded, Untold, Iconic: Afghanistan through the Lens of Steve McCurry (2016 with Kelsey Halliday Johnson), and Dedicated, Displayed, Discovered: Celebrating the Region's School Art Collections (2017 with Adrienne Neszmelyi-Romano) among others.
